Rural Travel Series.
This series is an examination of rural environments from Alberta, Montana, and British Columbia. These oil paintings depict personal cell phone snap shots and found images of landscapes, insects and wildlife, whilst focusing on colour and texture through gestural brushstrokes.
The landscape portray a sense of movement, as they highlight the view from my car on trips and on walking excursions, and are often vague or lacking in details of the land, primarily focusing on the “Big Sky” skyline and patterns in cloud formations.
The wildlife and insects depicted in my paintings details those found in urban environments, as witnessed outside my home, in nearby neighborhoods, and from rural environments and highways. Their static poses mimic images seen on postcards, travel brochures and other stock photos that are used to promote local travel.
